The Facilities Master Plan

In June, 2010, the Cuyahoga County Public Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously to adopted the Facilities Master Plan, the most significant building improvement program in the Library’s nearly 90-year history. The Plan consists of priority building, renovation and addition projects throughout the county Library system.

The goals of the Plan

To ensure the Library’s financial stability into the future and to reduce operating costs through efficient building design.
To create centers of excellence.
To establish equity of service throughout the Library system.

Since 2008, the Library’s revenues have decreased by $14.9 million due to state budget cuts, and since 2009 property tax revenues have decreased by $7 million. When it is completed, the Facilities Master Plan will save more than $4 million annually by replacing inefficient buildings with new sustainable one-story buildings that cost less to operate.

The Library is not asking taxpayers for additional funding for this Plan.

The Library has sold notes to raise $75 million and has saved $15 million in capital funds for these projects.

The Library and its Foundation are raising $10 million from businesses, foundations and individuals to complete $100 million Facilities Master Plan.
